THE INTERCONTINENTAL RALLY 2012: Jan 30 - Feb 12

The preparations of our Intercontinental Rally 2012 are underway. The IR 2012 is starting on January 30 in Almeria (Spain) and it's route will be winding through Mauritania and Morocco, down to Senegal. For the final site (the Full Range class) we have chosen the Lac Rose lake in the Dakar area, and the rally should make it there on February 13.

The Intercontinental Rally 2012 will be again split into two main classes - the Full Range class that will run all the way from Spain to Senegal, and a bit shorter the Lite class that will finish in Southern Morocco. Each of the main classes comprise two main categories - The Race and The Adventure. The both main classes run together.
The Full Range Rally takes 14 days and it is running from Almeria (Spain, Europe) to Dakar (Senegal, Africa) between Jan 30 and Feb 12, 2012.
The Lite Rally takes 6 days and it is running from Almeria (Spain, Europe) to Laayoune (Morocco Africa) between Jan 30 and Feb 5, 2012.
The brief description of The Race category
This category is all about racing - every crew shall run through a set of GPS points in a certain time limit.
You get penalized for any GPS points skipped, or the time limit exceeded. Every morning there will be a briefing
where you receive the stage map and GPS points (aka stage itinerary). You have to be ready to start on time every morning - who snoozes, looses - if you miss the start you will most likely get disqualified .
In that case, you can jump to the Adventure category and carry on racing there (see the description below), as the Adventure is not time demanding.
The brief description of The Adventure category
The absence of the time limit in this category ensures much more elaxed experience. Those of you who want to simply enjoy the trip through Africa shall look for this category. It also suits well to families with kids. In this category every crew shall run through a set of GPS points without any time limit. Each crew just have to come to the finish until certain time.
The IR2012 registration has been already open, and it is divided into 3 differently priced periods:
- The first period is providing by far the cheapest registration, but it will be open only until April 30.
- The second, a bit less economical registration comes right after, and it ends on August 30.
- The third, and final registration period closes on November 11, and there will be no opportunity to sign
up for the 2012 event after this date.
